The Cottonil story

Cottonil was founded in Cairo in 1999 and has grown into one of the largest underwear brands in Egypt, with factories in Egypt. In March 2018, the brand entered the Guinness World Records for making the world's largest underwear, as part of a prostate cancer awareness campaign.

Why Egyptian cotton?

Egyptian cotton has been grown along the Nile since the early 1800s and is known worldwide for its softness and durability. That matters for underwear, which sits against your skin all day. Our collection includes three kinds of fabric:

  • Combed cotton. Combing removes short fibers for a smoother, softer finish, as in our combed cotton undershirts.
  • Stretch cotton. Blends of 95% cotton and 5% Lycra, so the fabric moves with you.
  • Mercerized cotton. Our Mercerise line uses 95% mercerized cotton with 5% Lycra. Mercerizing is a finishing process that gives cotton a smoother, silkier feel and richer color.
